Café de Paris in Leicester Square is not only one of London’s most elite nightclubs but it also happens to be the nightclub with the richest History.
Café de Paris’ restaurant has had more than a few notable names dine in it since it was opened in 1924 including the Prince of Whales of that time and many of his high-powered friends whose presence added to the success of Café de Paris London in those early years. Café de Paris Club’s reputation for playing host to a glittering clientele did not diminish between 1924 to present day and more recently Café de Paris nightclub London has hosted evenings for Prince, The Spice Girls, Annie Lennox and many more.
During the Second World War Café de Paris London club was one of the unfortunate buildings to find itself crumbled after on of the dreaded air raids in 1941. And in a similar situation to London this year looters took advantage of the chaos and moved into the rubble of Café de Paris Covent Garden and began taking the jewels and possessions of the unlucky crowd found beneath the ruins.
Café de Paris in London was rebuilt and reopened in 1948 and has continued to entertain the crème de la crème of London’s society since. As one can expect with a club of such high esteem Café de Paris’ dress code is one of not so subtle opulence making it one of the most intriguing venues in Leicester Square on a Friday night.
Café de Paris music background stretches right back to the days when performers such as Frank Sinatra, Marlene Dietrich and Dorothy Dandridge graced the stage to entertain Café de Paris Club London’s high society. More recently Puff Daddy has sung a tune or two on Club Café de Paris’ stage.
Its floors have been flapped across with the Charleston, its stage performed on by some of the world’s favourite musicians for decades, it was bombed and restored and stands today as one of London’s favourite high end nightclubs. Café de Paris club truly is a night spot worth a visit.
